Name Change

You are now a MRS, say goodbye to the MS or MISS.  With the R comes a lot of paperwork.  First things first, don't lose your marriage certificate!  There's an order to go in that makes it easy for you. There are also firms out there that will take care of the entire name change process for you, at a cost. One firm we have found is  http://www.missnowmrs.com/ and they do everything for $29.95.  Documents that you will need to update with your new married name are:

1)   Drivers License -  bring your marriage certificate and current Driver's License to the DMV.  That's it! (if non SC bride please double check with your DMV website)

2)  Social Security Card - bring your marriage certificate and your new Drivers License with you. In some areas you can make an appointment, but you may want to bring a book or magazine as you are not allowed to use your cell phone (phone, web, text or applications) inside the Social Security office, and at times the wait can be long. In Charleston, the Social Security Administration office is located at: Social Security Administration: Tobias Gadson,  1453 Tobias Gadson Blvd, Charleston, SC- (843) 573-3600

3)  U.S. Passport -  if you have received a new passport in the past year, you might be able to bypass the $75 fee. You will need to mail your current passport, an original, certified copy of your marriage certificate, and Form DS-5504 (available at http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html) to the address on Form DS-5504

4)    IRS

5)    Credit Cards

6)    Car loans/mortgage

7)    Paypal (if applicable)

8)    Voter Registration
